Hydrating Serum

Do You Need a Moisturizer If You Use a Hydrating Serum?

Do You Need a Moisturizer If You Use a Hydrating Serum?

A hydrating serum does not automatically replace moisturizer. If your skin feels dry or tight after serum, a cream may help provide a more comfortable finish. Whether you need both depends on the formulas and your skin’s needs.

What is the difference between serum and moisturizer?

Hydrating serums often contain ingredients such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid that help attract water. Moisturizers can combine these with ingredients that soften skin and help reduce moisture loss.

The American Academy of Dermatology explains that moisturizers both add moisture and help prevent water from leaving the skin. A lightweight serum may therefore leave dry skin needing an additional moisturizing step.

Can serum and cream work better together?

For KURVED’s Hybrid Peptide pairing, a two-week study measured a greater increase in skin elasticity with both products than with serum alone:*

  • Serum followed by cream: +4.98%

  • Serum alone: +3.36%

Both figures represent changes from baseline in the same study. The trial used instrumental measurements and a split-face design involving 21 women aged 42–60.

These results support the tested pairing for elasticity. They do not mean every serum needs a cream, or that the study measured hydration.

How should you layer them?

Keep the routine simple:

  1. Apply serum evenly over clean skin and let it absorb.

  2. Follow with cream and allow it to absorb.

  3. In the morning, finish with sunscreen(SPF) before heading outdoors.

KURVED Hybrid Peptide Skin Barrier Cream combines glycerin, niacinamide, Ceramide NP, and peptides. Designed for normal to dry skin, it adds a moisturizing finish after serum.

Do you need both every day?

A moisturizer can provide hydration on its own. If you want the serum’s targeted benefits as well, layering it under cream is an option supported by the KURVED pairing’s elasticity results.

Choose a routine that keeps your skin comfortable throughout the day.
